Tahbilk Marsanne – Nagambie Lakes, Victoria, Australia. 2008 (12.5%) $18 – 88 pts

This wine is steeped in history and as far as we know is at least partly comprised of the oldest Marsanne vines in the world, planted in 1927. A pale lemon colour and only medium intensity nose while young, this wine develops into something extraordinary with time. Notes of pear, melon, citrus pith and stone fruit with a touch of nut lead to a dry, crisply refreshing palate with fresh citrus, mineral, pear, melon and celery notes than linger on a long finish. This was tasted side by side with a 1998 vintage that showed toast, honey, nut & lime and great complexity. Drink it young and fresh now & throw a few bottles in the cellar. You can’t find a much better bargain that can gracefully age 10 years. RATING: 88 pts (1998 vintage 90 pts)
